Server Role

Domain controllers store directory data and manage user logon processes and directory searches. Member servers perform specific functions, such as assigning Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or providing access to printers.

	Express setup to establish a new network Configure Your Server sets up this server as the first domain controller by: installing the Active Directory directory service, installing DNS and DHCP for management of IP addresses, and configuring a Telephony API (TAPI) application directory partition to support IP telephony and multicast conferences.
	Custom setup to establish a new network or to add servers to an existing network

		Network server (as a stand-alone server or as a member of a domain) Configure Your Server installs and configures the services you select without changing the domain or workgroup membership of this server. After completing this wizard, you can add this server to a domain.
		Domain controller Configure Your Server starts the Active Directory Installation Wizard. You can use the wizard to install DNS.
